How to Find Affordable Wedding Accessories on a Low Budget

It's not just your gown, you also need wedding accessories to compliment the rest of your ensemble. You need to find matching shoes, slippers or sneakers if you want to change out of your shoes for the reception, a special purse and a garter belt set for the toss and a keepsake.

You may also want to add wedding accessories that accent your ensemble like matching jewelry sets and perfect makeup shades that make you glow. And you can do it all on a very low budget by looking for the bargains or crafting them yourself.

Your complete wedding ensemble should be about you and what you like and want. So you need to be a savvy shopper, a crafty person or willing to learn some crafty tricks to put it all together.

Don't settle for less because you want to save money. Start early and get it all, at affordable bargains!

Kathleen Mary gives us more tips to save on bridal accessories:

You don't have to spend a fortune on wedding accessories to look perfect on your wedding day. With careful selection you can chose affordable headpieces, wedding veils, and bridal jewelry and still look your best.

  • Shop with a friend, relative or coworker who is getting married during the same year. Consider splitting the cost of wedding accessories that you both can wear.
  • Select bridal hairpins, usually sold in sets of six, or a side comb in place of an expensive bridal tiara.

Hairpins and side combs are made with the same rhinestones, pearls and crystals as tiaras, but they are smaller and much less expensive.

They are usually worn without a wedding veil, which saves you from having to purchase one.

  • If you do want to wear a wedding veil, purchase the tulle (fabric that veils are made of) and cut a 72" or 108" wide oval.

Wedding veil lengths are traditionally 24" for shoulder length, 29" for elbow length, 35" for waist length, 42" for fingertip length, and 106" for cathedral length.

Gather the fabric using two seams at one end and hand stitch it to a heavy-duty plastic comb. Scattered white pearls can be carefully hot glued to the veil near the bottom edge up to about one third of the veil length. Remember that less is more when it comes to veil accents.

  • Wedding boutiques that rent wedding gowns also may rent bridal headpieces, veils, crinolines, shoes and even bridal jewelry. Don't pay $75 or more for a crinoline (full slip) that you will probably never use again, if you can rent one for $20.
  • Examine bridal necklace and earring sets, headpieces and veils and other wedding accessories listed on eBay and Craig's list. Check free wedding classified ads for gently used items listed by other brides.
