Renewing Vows

by Crystal
(Dublin, CA, USA)

My husband James and I had a large wedding planned (200 + people) for May 14, 2005. During our engagement we became pregnant with our daughter Alexus. We canceled the wedding and eloped in Reno, NV with about 15-20 of our friends and family 2/5/05, we both still had 4 attendants (fewer then the 5 were were supposed to have on each side)just so I could wear my wedding dress since I already bought it.

We had decided to do a renewal at our 5 year mark which would have been 2/5/2010. Well, we had another baby, Connor, on 2/5/09,which made his 1st birthday on 2/5/10 (our 5 year anniversary). So we never had our renewal.

We are now planning for a Renewal in 2012. It is an odd numbered year, which will be our 7 year anniversary. We've finished having children and feel that we can afford to do the type of wedding that we didn't get back in 2005.

We are going to have some what of a formal renewal. I am going to wear a Red dress with no train. My two attendants are going to wear Black dresses. The groom and groomsman in Black & Red Zoot suits. My flowers I am going to make will be Black with Red Ribbon and the girls with Red flowers and Black Ribbon.

I want to do Black and Red tables, centerpieces, decorations, etc. I just need some helpful ideas on this.

If you could be so kindly to help me out this would be great. Ideas from dresses, zoot suits, decor, etc.

Thank you,
Crystal

black and red renewal wedding
by: Tracey

I was married in a secret English garden, so I am on the other side of the spectrum from this, however; as far as your decor? May I suggest using tree branches and spray painting them to the colors of your choice(preferably one color) Anyways, add these branches to a vase and add stones, wouldn't suggest river rocks, but more like decorative stone. In the branches, you could add jewels or decorative material for the Wow factor, it is beautiful. Are you planning an indoor wedding, or out? This is very beautiful when you are inside, the lights are very dim, and I would suggest having votive candles surrounding this. It is beautiful, just a suggestion!

Black & Red Theme
by: Karen

Crystal,

Your plans sound simply wonderful! I think since you are planning a black and red theme for your flowers, dresses and tuxes, you might want to look over on our Gothic Wedding Theme Ideas page for some tips and other resources that have to do with that striking and classy color theme.

We have some ideas for cakes, invitations and flowers, plus links to other sites for more ideas.

Obviously your theme doesn't have to be "Goth" in any way to incorporate those luscious colors into your décor, but the resources on our page may give you some really great ideas to start.

Enjoy your ceremony and thank you for sharing your story!
