Paying for Your Wedding

If you're planning a low budget wedding, chances are you're either paying for your wedding yourself or getting help from your family and you're all on a really tight budget.

Or maybe you've decided to have the cheapest wedding possible so your money can go toward the big dream honeymoon you've always wanted and you're not really able to do both.

Another reason for paying for your wedding in the cheapest way possible is to have extra funds for the down payment on your dream house, so you've decided that your savings should go toward that investment instead of a big elaborate wedding.

Whatever the reason for paying for your wedding on a low budget, in addition to starting your planning early to get the best deals and save the most money, here are some ideas for coming up with some extra money so you can have a little cushion and get you from planning day one through your honeymoon.

Get a high interest savings account
On the order of a Christmas Club, talk to your bank about starting a savings club for your wedding. Then just be diligent about setting a certain amount aside each weeek or month into the account and let it sit there and earn interest until it's time to start paying for your wedding.

This will work the best if you've set your date out at least six months to a year so your money will have some time to grow.

Wedding Sponsors
A relatively new idea lately is to have a sponsored weddings where couples find vendors to donate or cut the costs of services in exchange for advertising. For instance, a local caterer may donate a wedding cake in exchange for setting out an advertising card on the cake table. Or you can talk to an organizer of a reception hall or other venue about donating all or part of the venue for free or on a discount in exchange for having their business logo printed on the wedding invitations and table place cards.

If the couple has a website that gets a good amount of traffic, a business barter could be arranged where a prominent advertisement can be placed on the couple's website in exchange for services. This might work well with a local DJ or the printer who's doing the invitations.

Maybe you're a crafter at heart and you love making things for other people. Take your show on the road and set up your crafts at local craft fairs.

For the most savings, make sure you don't pay a lot for the space rental. When my husband and I set up our crafts, we normally won't pay more than $15 or $20 for the space rental and we usually sell enough to get back our fees plus some extra that we didn't start out with.

Extra Part Time Jobs or Gigs
