Digital Camera Skins for Disposable Wedding Cameras

Using hand crafted digital camera skins, you can turn Fuji disposable cameras into single use wedding cameras plus your wedding cameras will be customized to your wedding theme, blending seamlessly into your reception décor.

One of the most popular items couples purchase for their wedding reception is a box of disposable wedding cameras. You can find these single use wedding cameras just about anywhere, online and offline. These handy little cameras are passed around from guest to guest, capturing the fun and memories that the bride and groom would otherwise never have seen. Lasting memories of friends and family dancing and having fun on the most special days of their lives.

At the end of the evening, the cameras are left on the tables where they're collected for the bride and groom to have developed later, or maybe a friend or relative will have these special single use wedding cameras developed as a gift for the bride and groom while they're honeymooning.

The prices of these cameras can get pretty costly if you need to purchase more than 10 or 15 cameras for your wedding. They can range anywhere from $3.99 to $6.99 and up per camera depending on where you purchase them, then add shipping if you buy them online or tax if purchased locally.

And these cameras are all pretty much the same, with the same cardboard covers, or digital camera "skins" of white or ivory with "Wedding Memories" and flowers or rings printed on the covers in silver or gold. They're pretty standard no matter where you're buying them from.

Fuji-QuickSnap However, if you buy Fuji disposable cameras without the special wedding covers, you actually spend a couple of bucks less per camera, which can add up if you're buying 10, 15 or more single use cameras. And you can buy the Fuji cameras two in a pack in some places as well, for even more savings.

But now you have disposable cameras that really aren't going to look "wedding-like" sitting on your guests tables. And this is where Cynthia Hull of Idaho and The Crafty PC website come in, with a really cool project that will save you money plus give you a way to completely customize your single use wedding cameras using handmade digital camera skins.

What you are going to do, or have a friend or relative who's computer savvy and creative help you do, is create your own custom digital camera skins to replace the standard Fuji covers on the cameras to turn them from generic digital cameras into beautiful disposable wedding cameras.

Below are the materials you'll need plus written instructions from The Crafty PC website. You can also click here to watch our instructional video showing you exactly how to wrap your creative digital camera skins onto a Fuji camera.

MATERIALS:

  •   FujiFilm QuickSnap Flash disposable camera
  •   Camera "skin" template (Click Here to download the digital camera skins template)
  •   Inkjet paper
  •   Glue stick or glue (or Scotch® permanent double stick tape)
  •   Scissors
  •   Craft knife or X-Acto™ knife
  •   Cutting mat or a piece of heavy cardboard
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Open a blank page in your graphics program in landscape orientation. Download the template as described above and import it onto your blank page.
  2. Resize the template so that it measures 7 1/4" wide by 7 1/8" high. Lighten the color of the template if it is too dark.
  3. Add your text, clipart, or photos to the white areas of the template. (The shaded areas will be cut out.)
  4. Print a test page on plain paper. Cut it out around the outline, use your craft knife to cut out the six shaded areas and fold on the fold and tab lines.
  5. Remove the cardboard cover from your camera and replace it with your test "skin". If it fits well, go ahead and print it out on the paper of your choice.
  6. Using glue or a glue stick, apply glue to the tabs and attach the skin to the camera.
If you prefer to fill the entire area of the skin with a design, it's not hard to do, but since the template is not transparent in the interior, it will require two steps.
  1. First make sure that the template is centered on your page. Then place a rectangle over it and make certain that it extends beyond all the edges of the template beneath it. Fill this rectangle with the color or pattern of your choice (like we did with our "kissy lips" camera skin!) and center it on the page. You should not see the template beneath it.

Print the filled rectangle on a sheet of test paper.

  2. Go back to your project and remove the rectangle by cutting (Ctrl-X) – not deleting. This will enable you to paste (Ctrl-V) the rectangle back in place if you need to without having to recreate it.

Now you should see only the template on your page. Flip the template horizontally, as you would for a t-shirt transfer. Put the paper with the printed rectangle back into the printer to print on the opposite (blank) side.

Print the template on the blank side. Cut it out and proceed as above in step 4.
