Low budget weddings may call cheap wedding cakes, but that doesn't mean you have to forgo the elegance to save money.

So here are some tips for getting that fancy cake, if you choose to have one, or creating your own design so you have the wedding cake of your dreams without a nightmare price tag.

• Extra Fees
  If you've found a bakery to do your cake for a great price, keep in mind that some bakeries charge extra to deliver and set up special event cakes and some will even add mileage fees to their prices depending on how far they have to travel to your reception location, so be sure to ask about those extra fees.

  And if you're working with a smaller bakery or professional cake designer, see what extra fees you may incur for delivery and set up as well.



• Local Stores
  Check at your grocery stores in their bakery departments. Some departments will advertise that they do custom cakes and others you find out just by asking around. So stop in and check. You might find your perfectly elegant cheap wedding cake while grocery shopping!


• Friends and Family
  Do you have a neighbors or family members who are creative? Show them a photo of the design you want and see what they will charge you to do your cake. You may even get someone to offer to do your cake as a special wedding gift
