Almost married my brother-in-law...

I went home (to my parents home in another state) the week before our wedding. My hubby-to-be was scheduled to arrive a few days later, and just two days before the wedding. Too late we discovered that we hadn't allotted enough time to get the wedding license. I can't remember the exact details, but we had to get my brother-in-law - who was about 15 years older, at least a foot taller, and much larger than my fiance - to pretend he was my husband to be. I think my husband must have overnighted his drivers license to us, because my brother-in-law had to pretend he was the guy in the picture.

My mother was so upset and nervous she wouldn't come in with us while we tried to pull off the hoax. Then my stand-in fiance bolted at the first opportunity, leaving me to make up some story to the clerk about how he had to go shopping for shoes for the wedding.

We also left my fiance standing on the front porch of our house on our wedding day as we all drove off for the wedding at a location 60 miles away, but fortunately someone circled back. This was before cell phones and it would have definitely held things up!

All's well that ends well and we are still married 15 years later!

That is hilarious. You and your brother in law sure have some nerve!

It turned out great

Really loved your story as we had problems with licenses too. We even did not manage to get married the first time we tried as the Post sent the documents to another country! Glad it all worked out great as it did for us - in the second attempt.
