A Few Frugal Tips for a Great (and Special!) Wedding

My wife and I have been married for just over two years now, and I still remember our special day like it was yesterday. We had our dream wedding, just as we always wanted, and we did it inexpensively, by calling only family and friends to help us make our dream come true.

First, we live close by to where my family is from, so my wife and I were able to be married in the church my parents were married in. It was so special to have pictures of both my parents, and us in the same location on our wedding days.

But, even more special than this was the fact that the minister who married my parents was a close family friend, and he was ready and happy to perform the ceremony for us (at no cost!)

In addition, a friend of ours from college was a music major, and was happy to play flue (accompanied by a pianist) for our ceremony music. Not only was this a beautiful addition to our perfect ceremony, but our friend did this for us as our wedding gift, again, saving us money.

Later on, at the reception, a friend of mine DJ’ed, and was able to specially tailor the night’s music to my new bride and I’s taste in music. Because of this, we had the exact music we wanted at our reception, and we saved money on a DJ.

Now, I know that not everyone can be as lucky as we were, and have lots of friends willing to provide wedding services at no cost, but it doesn’t hurt to ask around. Many people will be honored, simply by being included in your special day.

Even better still, though, is because they are your friends, they are often willing to specially tailor their services to your wedding, to make your day as perfect as can be. Even if you don’t have a friend who can help with some element of your wedding, you can always ask around for referrals.

Often times, you can find someone who provides wedding services inexpensively because they provide the service only part time. Ultimately, the more you wish to save on your wedding is equal to the amount of time you desire to put in to find someone who fits your needs and budget.
